New Hospital Visitation Regulations for LGBT Families Will Go into Effect on Tuesday

This Tuesday, federal regulations go into effects that require all hospitals participating in Medicaid and Medicare programs (which is almost every hospital in America) to permit patients to designate which visitors they wish to allow and prohibit discrimination in visitation on many factors, including sexual orientation and gender identity.

This is the result of President Obama’s presidential memorandum in April 2010 that directs the Department of Health and Human Services to develop regulations protecting hospital visitation rights.

Thank you President Obama!
